VAU is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit run by veterans. We cover our less than 3% overhead costs through board donations to maximize every donated dollar towards our programs and those we serve. Founded in 2013 with a focus on providing much-needed support to disabled veterans and their family members through accessible retreats and adaptive sports/recreation.
The 2nd part of our mission is to honor our fallen heroes from the war on terror as well as their gold star families. We completed our 1st rendition of the Fallen Heroes Memorial in 2018 and it has travelled to 60+ locations nationwide to bring awareness of all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and the American flag.
We recently completed the 2nd rendition the memorial flag which will travel to more locations in central and western US regions.
When a veteran is first wounded, injured or ill, they go through a lengthy process of healing which is unique for every individual. We at VAU personally understand this all too well. We have found that through recreation, athletics and wellness retreats this recovery process is greatly improved. By participating in a sport or activity you have been told you may never do again - or staying at a retreat with others who are going through a similar situation - you can learn and regain hope. These experiences are what we at VAU are dedicated to providing for veterans with disabilities of all wars.
